Belated update about the great concert weekend of ‘09…actual concert reviews not included.

A few weekends ago April and I went to the Twin Cities for a M. Ward concert and a Neko Case concert. Here's some stuff that happened...

At times April and I are very much like siblings. We argue and get into mild physical altercations (usually elbowing or pinching). Plus we’re, you know, like 13 year old boys, so it’s pretty much unavoidable. I was annoying April one evening and she pinched my arm…hard. It left a red mark. Of course I pinched her back. A few moments later my arm still hurt. I was rubbing it and making an annoying sad face at her.
ME: You pinched me!
APRIL: You pinched me back!
ME: But you pinched me first!
APRIL: You always pinch me!
ME: Yeah, well, you pinched my heart.

At that point we cracked up laughing and all was forgotten. For the most part anyway.

April and I are big on puns. They make us laugh – even the worst of them. At the first concert they were serving food, which we found to be kind of odd. Who wants to stand in a crowded room eating a burger with the works? Anyway, we kept seeing people eating wraps and I of course would say, “That’s a wrap” and we’d laugh like dorks. Also, while looking at curtains at Ikea and Urban Outfitters we kept saying, “It’s curtains for you,” and again laughed like the dorks we are.

Also, April and I, at times, have a hard time speaking. I think the problem is that we talk too fast and words get mixed up. For instance, April tried to say the words “Cinnamon Buns,” but it came out as “Cin-a-ma-ba.” We then repeated it until we cried. It was then my turn to mess something up. As we were waiting to get out of a parking ramp I tried to say, “How long does it take to pay?” It came out as “How long does it taytapay?” April asked me if I was Nell. Again we laughed so hard we cried.

Good times!

The thing about music is that I always think, “This is it. This is the song. There will never be another song as good (or wonderful, or true, etc.) than this.” And then, BAM, I discover a song that helps me acknowledge something in myself that I didn’t know existed or how to express.

The other thing about music is that it helps keep me in the moment. After dealing with anxiety and panic attacks for the past 12 years I’ve come to recognize that music makes me, albeit briefly, focus on the here and now. It distracts me long enough from the never ending wheel of “what ifs” that turns in my head and just lets me be. It’s freeing and satisfying and holy.

Music stirs me.
Music makes me feel closer to God.
Music expresses things I don’t know how to say.
Music is something I cannot do without.

p.s. I wrote this at a quarter to 1 in the am. I have a feeling it will read a bit dramatic now.

Even Vampires need to shop at Target!

It's been a crazy few weeks. I don't know why but I'm quite popular this month and have been going non-stop.

Last Thursday I went with several of my co-workers to see "The Full Monty" at a local theater. I got to view a local news anchor's naked rump. Very interesting. The musical was done very well - the singers were great, the acting was good, and there was plenty of skin for all the old (70+) ladies in the audience!

This Saturday I went shopping with a co-worker/friend. We then went out to eat at a lovely little local restaurant where I had a salad with broiled chicken, curried almonds, and ginger lime dressing. It was delicious. We then went to see Peter Mayer sing. I tried to convince April he was John Mayer's dad, but she wasn't buying it. The concert was very good (whenever he sings his song "Holy Now" it just sends chills up and down my spine!). At one point I texted April regarding a guy sitting a few feet in front of me and my friend...
ME: Don't wear a Polaris jacket and a black mock turtle neck to a folk concert.
APRIL: Don't be 29 and attend a folk concert.
Me: Shut it!
APRIL: BURN!

On Monday of this week I was wearing a very cute new outfit -a pair of khaki pants and a see-through dressy navy blue and red blouse. And of course the moment I got to work I spilled a bunch of chili all over myself. I had to go home and change. And then a co-worker pointed out that I had a flat tire. She was sure I had gotten when I went home to change from the chili incident. Bad, crabby day!

Today the Easter Bunny was at our university passing out Easter eggs. One of my co-workers received a coupon for a free cup of coffee. Several other co-workers received candy in their eggs. I, of course, got a condom in my Easter egg. *SIGH*

My cell phone has been on the fritz lately. Perhaps it is because I lost it for a whole evening and the found it open in a snow bank. Maybe not. Anyway, I'm planning on switching to a free phone I got when I bought my current one. But before I did that I wanted to move all my pictures from my cell phone to my computer. Here are some long overdue pictures of my second Bon Iver concert, Hillary Clinton and Al Franken, Stella, and a few crazy things I stumbled across! Enjoy and HAPPY EASTER!

Bon Iver - Look how close we were! Me-ow! Look at those ARMS! DOUBLE MEOW!

Hillary Clinton and Al Franken. This may sound cheesy, but Hillary made me proud to be a woman in America!

Glamour Shot! and..."Somebody's watching me!"

How could I forget about Neko Case? Great concert! Can't wait to see her again this month!

Someone (NOT ME) at my local Kohl's store re-arranged these letters to spell "boobs." Hahahaha! Boobs!

I found a pair of Vampire teeth in the parking lot of Target about a month ago. Even Vampires need to shop at Target!

Spring

Bought some new clothes for spring and for other reasons but we won't go into that now.

New spring trench coat and cream colored purse. I'm really into cream colored stuff right now.

Pretty cream colored (again) shirt and a blue sweater to go over it. The sweater is more of a blue gray in person. Very pretty. And I love the lacy crochet pattern at the top of the shirt.

I ordered this pretty yellow and gray shirt (I'm still obsessed with gray and yellow together. Gray and orange together too. I'd have to say gray is my new black.) Have yet to try it on, but I also ordered a cute little gray sweater to go over it. I'm a sweater gal, in case you haven't noticed. If I was on the beach in a swimsuit I'd still have a sweater on over it.

I also got this pink skirt. It'll be nice and cool for the warmer days ahead.

These earrings were an early b-day present to myself. I got them from this etsy.com shop.

I know I'm growing my hair out, but, come on! Look how cute this cut is. I'm soooooo tempted.

Picked up "The Composer is Dead" yesterday. Mostly because Carson Ellis did the illustrations, but it is a cute/fun book.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I want Martha's Encyclopedia of Crafts. Haven't bought it yet. Maybe I'll ask for it for my b-day!

Awesome Stuff!

Diet Dr. Pepper can that exploded in garage because of the cold weather. Awesome!

Cross Stitched mustache. Awesome!

My feather headband (and birdy decor in bathroom). Totally unplanned picture.
DOUBLE AWESOME!

Free heavy duty upholstery fabric! SUPER AWESOME!

I got the fabric for free from our Library's Interior Decorator. We're renovating and getting new furniture. This was one of our fabric options. I loved it, but only one other person liked it. The fabric they did choose is maroon with tiny half circles in yellowish, orange-ish, and pinkish colors. The following conversation took place while discussing the fabric I didn't like...

Interior Decorator: I actually am liking this fabric much more than the one I originally chose. *shown above*

Me:
When we put it on one of our couches upstairs I found it to be kind of startling.

Interior Decorator:
But...you're wearing feathers on your head! *everyone laughs as the feather headband has been quite controversial in the library*

Me:
Yeah, well when I saw that fabric my feathers stood up! *I use my hand to illustrate my feathers standing up like a roosters. everyone laughs even harder*

Good times in the library!

Speaking of good times in the library... My interview went very well. I felt really good about my presentation even though my computer crashed the night before and I lost some of it. Even our Library's director said she really enjoyed my presentation and that we should try to implement some of my ideas! Yay! I should find out within the next month if I get the job. If I do get it then I'll be faculty AND an assistant professor! Kooky Crazy!

Misc.

Monday night as I was cooking dinner (popcorn and fake chicken nuggets - the dinner of champions) I had an awful thought. What if I died and my last blog post was about chest ladies? Awkward! I figured I'd better post something asap!

I copied RedLaw and bought myself a feather headband from twistedvintage. I wore it to work on Tuesday. I had mixed responses...mostly negative. BOO to boring people. I think it's cute. I wore it with grey jeans and a cowl necked a black and white striped shirt. I'll try to take a picture of myself wearing it and post it here. We'll see.

I have an interview for my job next Tuesday. I say "my job" because I'm interviewing for the job I've had for the past 6 years. I've been a temporary employee, so in order to permanently fill it they had to open it up for everyone to apply. Anyway, the interview starts at 7:30. In the morning. A.M. Before I even wake up/go to bed. I'm already tired just thinking about it.
The next day I plan on making "Banana 'this is not a bribe *winky, winky*' Bread," which is basically just plain old banana bread filled with hundred dollar bills and coated in a rich diamond sauce. Mmmmm...molar breaking goodness.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor...

So, it's 11:10pm right now. About 10 minutes ago I left my home library to get ready for bed. I decided to first go to the kitchen to get a glass of water. I didn't turn on the kitchen light as I had a light on in another part of the house and it lit up my path well enough. I filled a glass with water and began drinking the water while staring out my kitchen window which happens to be directly across from my neighbor's window. (My neighbor is a guy who is probably a few years younger than me. He's had several guy roommates and his girlfriend [now his ex?] lived with him for awhile.) I'm drinking my water, looking out my window when I see someone in my neighbor's house walk up to their kitchen window. I think, "I haven't seen that girl be....BOOBIES!" That's right, folks. Some girl in my neighbor's house walked up to the kitchen window, with the light on, naked. I got a full view of her chest ladies. She put her arm in front of them and leaned over to shut the light off. I leaped back from my own window hoping she didn't see me. I then immediately called April and told her the above story, ending it with the phrase "BEST. NIGHT. EVER." To which she responds, "I didn't think I could do it, but I did. I saw my first set of boobies before I turned 30!" And then we laughed. We then came up with several scenarios. Tomorrow as I leave the house I see my neighbor. He says, "Good morning!" I say, "BOOBIES! I mean, hello." etc., etc., etc.

Most hilarious night EVER.

p.s. yes, we said "boobies" because we're really 13 year old boys.
